July 29 - He who is able to save completely
“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him because he always lives to intercede for them.” - Hebrews 7:25
This verse begins with the Greek word " other, " which means "therefore." The next statement entirely depends on what has just been said. In prior verses, the author has explained how the Old Testament system of priests is limited and ultimately useless for our salvation.
Human priests can only serve until they die (Hebrews 7:23), so they cannot intercede for us forever. No human priest could offer sacrifice for all
sins since he could never live long enough. Jesus, on the other hand, lives forever (Hebrews 7:16), with a priesthood guaranteed forever by God (Hebrews 7:17, 7:21).Therefore, Christ can save us in ways the Old Covenant never could. The concept of Jesus saving "to the uttermost" is often taken to mean that God can save anyone, no matter how sinful they may be.
That idea is true (1 Corinthians 6:9–11) but is not the point. Instead, the author of Hebrews echoes the same points made earlier: that Jesus is enernally available to intercede for us and offer us forgiveness, even now (Hebrews 4:14–16).
Where a human priest would fall short, Christ can save us entirely since His priesthood is unending (Romans 8:34).
What man's effort cannot achieve, Christ's finished work on the cross has already done (Matthew 19:26; Isaiah 64:6; Romans 11:6).
The most important thing is to live a life with the assurance of the forgiveness of sins and salvation. But, today’s people, more than ever before, live with uncertainty and anxiety without self esteem.
Their money worries, education for their children, and uncertain futures contribute to low self esteem and a lack of hope and joy. However, believers have the privilege of living with certainty and healthy self-esteem.
Assurance and certainty come from experiencing trust and faith in God. Our mind, which is like a computer, remembers past experiences. Therefore, people’s self-esteem and assurance are dependent on past experiences.
For example, the laws of nature are unchanging. Therefore, no one doubts the existence of gravity on Earth. There are no cases of flying and floating bodies due to irregular gravity. And no one is surprised to see a sunrise or sunset. We believe these things because we know the earth, which rotates around the sun and creates morning and evening.
However, trusting and assuring someone else differs from trusting nature's laws. Human beings always change. Humans need to be more consistent. Humans can’t keep all the promises that are made. And this leaves a negative impression on others.
We must understand that God created every single one of us (1 Corinthians 6:20). Only God can give us the pride and confidence we can depend on. The power of God helps our inability (1 Corinthians 1:7). The LORD is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrew 13:8).
Today, God is doing what He was doing for us. He provides us with what we need most (Hebrews 7:25). Our confidence and assurance do not come from “I can do it” but “God can do it.” We can do anything when we trust God, who creates and governs the universe.
Today’s Prayer: Reflect on John 8:44. Pray against the influence of Satan- “the father of lies”- as he attempts to subvert the spread of the gospel throughout the earth. Ask that his lies will be exposed in the very arena of life. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Pray that unsaved persons you know will submit themselves to this Savior and begin to live in the light of his teachings.

“그러므로 자기를 힘입어 하나님께 나아가는 자들을 온전히 구원하실 수 있으니 이는 그가 항상 살아서 저희를 위하여 간구하심이니라” - 히 7:25
이 구절의 말씀은 "그러므로"를 의미하는 헬라어 ‘호텐’으로 시작하고 있습니다. 다시 말하면 지금까지의 말씀의 결론 부분이라는 뜻입니다. 히브리서 저자는 구약의 제사장 제도는 궁극적으로 우리의 구원에 도움이 안된다고 말합니다. 인간 제사장들은 살아있는 동안만 일하고(히 7:23), 우리를 위해 영원히 중보자가 될 수 없다는 것입니다. 어떤 인간 제사장도 우리 죄를 위해 제물을 바칠 수 없고 영원히 살 수 없기 때문입니다. 그러나 예수님은 영원히 살아 계시고(히 7:16), 하나님이 주신 영원한 제사장의 직분을 가지고 있습니다(히 7:17, 21).
그러므로 그리스도는 옛 언약이 할 수 없는 방법으로 우리를 구원하십니다. 예수님께서 "땅 끝까지”의 사람을 구원하신다는 것은 하나님은 죄가 많은 사람도 구원하실 수 있다는 의미입니다. 이 개념은 맞고 사실이지만(고전 6:9-11), 이 구절에서 말하는 요지는 아닙니다. 히브리서 저자는 앞서 지적한 대로 예수님은 우리를 위해 중보하시고 용서하시고 지금도 우리의 영원한 제사장이 되십니다(히 4:14-16).
인간 제사장은 한계가 있지만 그리스도의 제사장직분은 제헌이 없기 때문에 우리를 온전히 구원하십니다(롬 8:34). 사람의 노력으로 할 수 없는 것을 그리스도의 십자가의 구속의 사역으로 구원을 완성하신 것 입니다(마 19:26; 사 64:6; 롬 11:6).
죄사함의 확신과 구원의 확신을 가지고 살아가는 것은 삶에 매우 중요하다는 것을 알아야 합니다. 오늘날 사람들은 과거보다 더 많은 문제 때문에 불안과 초조함 가운데 자신감이 없이 살아 갑니다. 재물, 자녀 교육, 미래에 대한 염려와 불안은 열등감을 조성하고 소망과 기쁨을 갖지 못하게 합니다. 그러나 그리스도인들은 확신과 건전한 자신감을 가지고 살아갈 수 있는 특권이 부여되어 있습니다. 확신과 자신감은 하나님을 의지하는 믿음과 신앙에서 나옵니다. 사람의 마음은 마치 컴퓨터와 같아서 과거의 경험을 기억하고 있으며 자신감과 확신은 과거의 경험에서 오는 것 입니다.
예를 들면, 자연의 법칙은 변함이 없습니다. 지구의 중력을 의심하는 사람은 한 사람도 없습니다. 지구의 중력이 불규칙해서 물체가 공중에 들리우고, 날아 다니는 일은 전혀 없었습니다. 그리고 해가 뜨고 지는 것에 대해 놀라는 사람은 하나도 없습니다. 지구가 태양을 중심으로 회전하기 때문에 항상 아침과 저녁이 된다는 것을 확신합니다. 그러나 사람을 신뢰하거나 믿는 것은 자연법칙을 신뢰하는 것과 전혀 다릅니다. 인간은 늘 변하고 시종일관하지 못합니다. 자신이 약속한 것을 지키지 못하는 인간은 결국 다른 사람들에게 부정적인 인상을 주게 됩니다.
우리는 하나님께서 모든 인간을 그의 형상으로 창조하신 것을 믿어야 합니다(고전 6:20). 오직 하나님만 우리에게 삶의 확신과 자신감을 주십니다(고전 1:7). 예수 그리스도는 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 동일 하십니다(히 13:8). 하나님은 과거처럼 오늘도 똑 같이 우리를 위하여 일하십니다. 주님은 우리의 가장 필요한 것을 공급하십니다(히 7:25). 삶의 확신과 자신감은 “내가 할 수 있다”는 데서 오지 않고 “주님이 하신다”라는 믿음에서 옵니다. 우리가 온 우주를 창조하시고 다스리시는 하나님을 의지하면, 능력 주시는 자 안에서 모든 것을 할 수 있습니다.
오늘의 기도: 요한복음 8장 44절을 묵상하며, 지상에서 복음을 전파사역을 전복 시도하는 “거짓의 아비” 사탄의 영향이 없도록 기도하십시오. 삶의 모든 영역에서 그의 거짓이 드러나도록 기도하십시오. “내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명” (요 14:6)이라고 말씀하신 예수님께서 당신이 아는 구원받지 못한 자들이 자신을 복종시키고 주님의 말씀에 빛 가운데서 삶을 시작하도록 기도하십시오.
