August 26 - The One Who Does the Will of God
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘LORD, LORD will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 7:21
Matthew 7 is the last of three chapters that record what is now known as the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus commands His hearers not to pronounce shallow or hypocritical judgment. He describes God as a generous Father eager to give good things to His children when they ask. He commands His followers to enter the narrow gate and walk the hard road to life. False prophets can be recognized by their fruit, actions, and choices. At the same time, good deeds are not absolute proof that someone has true faith. To live by Jesus' teaching is like building the house of your life on a solid foundation instead of shifting sand.
Matthew 7:15–23 contains a two-sided warning about false believers. A religious leader may appear respectable and wise, but you must look at the fruit of his life to know if he truly represents God. In the same way, a person can claim to follow Jesus, referring to Him as "LORD," when they are not true believers. Only those who do the will of the Father will be allowed into the kingdom of heaven—which Jesus defines as beginning with true belief (John 6:28–29). Our good works might fool others and us, but they cannot fool God.
The Early Christians lived together and had everything in common. They sold their possessions to help others in need while proclaiming the Gospel (Acts 2:44-45).
Thus, there were no people who were suffering from poverty. In contrast, today’s church spends God’s money on its buildings, usually used for church education and prayer. Of course, these are important factors for teaching and training Christians to become better Christians, such as salt and light.
However, it is more important to realize that the real purpose of the church is not for gathering only Christians but for the expansion of the Kingdom of God by being the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16).
Evangelism today is ineffective despite a Christian’s hard work because the church does not do its job worldwide. Therefore, many unbelievers do not understand the modern church well.
When a church opens its door to a community and offers beneficial programs, it grows at God’s pleasure. Some people say that Christians are like a salt shaker on a table.
Salt should not be in a bottle. Salt should come out of the shaker to preserve, season, and enhance food (Matthew 5:13).
Today’s Christians should not put salt in a shaker. They should come out from the box of the church and into the world.
They must show Christ’s love to the world through their actions. The LORD said action is the measurement for final judgment. He said, “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in; I needed clothes, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25:35, 36).

“나더러 주여 주여 하는 자마다 천국에 다 들어갈 것이 아니요 다만 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자라야 들어가리라” - 마 7:21
이 말씀은 예수님의 신싱수훈의 말씀 가운데 마지막 부분인 7장에 나오는 말씀입니다. 예수님은 다른 사람에 대해 가볍고 위선적인 판단을 하지 말하고 명령합니다. 예수님은 하나님은 그의 자녀들이 구할 때 좋은 것을 주시는 관대하고 사랑이 많은 아버지로 묘사합니다. 예수님은 제자들에게 생명에 이르는 좁은 문으로 들어가 험한 좁은 길을 걸으라고 명령하십니다. 거짓 선지자들은 그들의 선행의 열매를 보고 안다고 하였지만 그들의 선행에는 진정한 믿음을 나타내는 절대적인 증거가 없었습니다. 예수님의 말씀에 순종하며 살아간다는 것은 우리 인생의 집을 모래 위에 짓는 것이 아니라 반석위에 짓는 것과 같은 것입니다.
마태복음 7:15-23은 거짓 신자자들을 위한 양면의 경고의 말씀입니다. 종교 지도자가 사람들로부터 존경받고 지혜로운 자로 보일 수 있지만, 하나님의 메시지를 전하는 지도자인지 알기 위해서는 반드시 그의 삶의 열매를 확인해야 합니다. 참된 신자가 아니면서도 예수님을 "주여" “주여”라고 부르며 따를 수 있다고 말씀합니다. 예수님은 천국은 참된 믿음을 가진 자의 것이고 믿음대로 행하는 자가 천국에 들어간다고 말씀합니다(요 6:28-29). 사람의 선행으로 자신과 다른 사람들을 속일 수 있으나 하나님은 절대로 기만하지 못합니다.
초대교회 성도들은 모든 것들을 함께 공유하는 공동체의 삶을 살았습니다. 그들은 복음을 전하고 어려운 사람들을 돕기 위해 그들이 가진 모든 소유를 팔았습니다(행 2:44-45). 교회안에 가난으로 고통받는 사람들은 아무도 없었습니다. 그러나 오늘날은 교회 모임과 훈련에 필요한 시설과 관리에 많은 재정이 소요되고 있습니다. 물론 시설은 교육과 훈련을 통해 세상에서 소금과 빛으로서 증인의 삶을 살게 하는 중요한 요소들 중의 하나입니다.
그러나 교회의 진정한 존재 적은 신자들은 교회안으로 모으는 것이 아니라 세상의 소금과 빛이 되어 하나님 나라를 확장하는 것입니다(마 5:13-16). 오늘날 많은 그리스도인들이 전도하지만 전도에 대한 효과가 많이 없는 이유가 교회가 세상에서 제 역할을 하지 못하기 때문이라고 말합니다. 세상의 수 많은 불신자들에게 오늘날의 현대 교회와 그리스도인들에 대해 좋은 이미지와 인상을 주지 못하고 있기 때문입니다.
교회가 지역사회에 유익을 주는 프로그램을 개발하여 제공하며 전도할 때 교회는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하며 성장할 수 있습니다. 어떤 사람들은 그리스도인들은 식탁의 소금통과 같다고 말합니다. 소금통 안에 들어있는 소금은 밖으로 나와 사용되지 않으면 쓸모가 없습니다. 소금은 양념에 맛을 향상시키고 보존하기 위해 반드시 소금통에서 나와 뿌려자야 합니다(마 5:13). 그리스도인들은 교회안에만 있으면 있으면 안되며 반드시 세상으로 나와야 합니다.
그리스도인들은 삶의 행위를 세상에 보여주며 불신자들에게 그리스도의 사랑을 나타내 보여야 주어야 합니다. 예수님은 세상에서 그리스도인들의 사랑의 행위가 최후 심판의 척도가 된다고 말씀 하셨습니다. “내가 주릴 때에 너희가 먹을 것을 주었고 목마를 때에 마시게 하였고 나그네 되었을 때에 영접하였고 벗었을 때에 옷을 입혔고 병들었을 때에 돌아보았고 옥에 갇혔을 때에 와서 보았느니라”(마 25:35-36)
