July 22 - Faith Burning Within Us
“They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” - Luke 24:32
Walking along the road to Emmaus, two disciples discussed the many events of the previous weeks: the arrest, the trial of Jesus,
His crucifixion, and burial. And now the strange rumors of His resurrection. As they walked the dusty road to Emmaus, they found themselves in the very presence of Jesus, but they didn’t recognize Him.
The disciples reported their hearts burning while He talked to them on the road. Something had changed inside them. They have gone from hearts filled with fear to hearts flowing with unspeakable joy so that their hearts burned.
When you hear, ‘How do we get burning hearts?’ You have to look fervently at this incident. It is the recipe for making cold hearts warm. Because the Scriptures only ignite a burning Heart for God, it is intensified by our communion with Him and will inspire us to do His will. Become active.
That’s the significance and wonder of it all. Listen: So if you become bewildered by circumstances in your life, Jesus can reorient you to Himself through the scriptures just as He did for these two men. So then we are shown that Changed Hearts equals. Changed Lives. Their message changed, and they no longer moaned about His death; they proclaimed He was alive!
Reformer John Calvin called the church the “fellowship of burning hearts.” Today’s church has been losing the heat of the early church and Puritan era.
The heat for Bible study, prayer, evangelism, and service is not in the church. But the Bible testifies that when a life of faith has heat and passion, a church can please God, and a Christian plays a “salt and light” role in the world. There could be three components for passionate faith.
First, we must hear God's word (Romans 10:17; Galatians 3:2, 5). When Jesus explains the Scriptures to apostles on the way to Emmaus, their hearts burn within them (Luke 24:32).
Jesus might explain prophecy about him in the Pentateuch. Our heart burns when we are spiritually awakened, knowing who Jesus is and what he has done. Our hearts get hot when we read the Bible daily and find the truth. Therefore, we must pray to God for an open mind to receive His words (2 Corinthians 6:7).
Second, there should be fellowship in the church (Acts 2:42; Philippines 1:5). When the apostles at Emmaus felt their hearts burning, they had one mind, not two minds. One mind has one fellowship.
The burning hearts should be seen as burning fellowship. The unconscious mind does not want to have fellowship. The proof of the Holy Spirit in us is fellowship with other people. We have to share our problems, pray together, comfort each other, and share God’s words to refresh our minds and warm our hearts. (John 20:17).
Third, we have to evangelize to people (2 Timothy 4:5). Two apostles at Emmaus went back to Jerusalem to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus after they met Jesus. They couldn’t help but share the Good News. A Christian who has a burning heart has to share what he received.
Our hearts keep warm by sharing Jesus Christ with other people. Otherwise, our hearts will become cold, insensitive, and dull. If you experience an insensitive mind, you must ask yourself, “Am I a Christian who shares the gospel?”
Today’s Prayer: Pray that your loved ones who are physically or spiritually malnourished will receive the food they need.

“저희가 서로 말하되 길에서 우리에게 말씀하시고 성경을 풀어 주실 때에 우리 속에서 마음이 뜨겁지 아니하더냐 하고” - 눅 24:32
엠마오로 가는 두 제자는 얼마전 예루살렘에서 있었던 예수님의 십자가의 처형과 매장, 그리고 부활에 관한 이야기를 나누고 있었습니다. 예수님은 그들 곁에 함께 있었지만 그들은 예수님을 알아보지 못했습니다. 예수님께서 말씀하실 때에 제자들의 마음이 뜨겁워졌습니다. 그들이 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 있는 동안 마음속에 어떤 변화가 있었던 것 입니다. 두려움으가득했던 그들의 마음이 형용할 수 없는 기쁨으로 충만해 지고 마음이 뜨거워진 것입니다.
'어떻게 마음이 뜨거워지는가?'라는 질문은 엠마오의 사건에서 차가운 마음이 어떻게 뜨거운 마음으로 변했는지 엠마오 사건을 깊이 생각해 보아야 합니다. 하나님을 향한 뜨거운 마음이 성경 말씀으로 점화되면 하나님과의 교제가 강화되고 하나님의 뜻대로 행할 수 있는 영감을 받습니다. 이것이 모든 사실에 대한 의미와 놀라움인 것입니다.
그러므로 현재 삶의 상황이 홀란하다면, 예수님께서 두 제자에게 행하셨던 것처럼 성겸 말씀으로 다시 히나님께로 인도함을 받고 돌아와야 합니다. 엠마오의 제자들의 마음이 뜨거워지고 그들의 삶과 메시지가 변화되어 더 이상 예수님의 죽음을 안타까워하지 않고 예수님의 죽음에서 부활하신 사건을 담대히 증거하며 복음을 전하게 된 것입니다.
종교 개혁자 요한 칼빈은 교회를 "불타는 마음의 교제"라고 불렀습니다. 오늘날의 교회는 초대 교회와 청교도 시대의 뜨거운 열정을 점차 잃어가고 있습니다. 교회의 성경 공부, 기도, 전도, 예배의 열정은 점차 식어가고 있습니다. 그러나 우리의 믿음의 삶에 뜨거운 열정을 있을 때 교회는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하고 그리스도인은 세상에서 소금과 빛의 사명을 감당할 수 있다고 성경은 증언하고 있습니다. 열정있는 믿음에는 세 가지 중요한 것이 있습니다.
첫째, 하나님의 말씀을 들어야 합니다(롬 10:17; 갈 3:2, 5). 엠마오로 가는 제자들에게 예수님께서 성경을 설명할 때 그들의 마음이 뜨거워졌습니다(눅 24:32). 예수님은 모세 오경은 자신에 대한 예언이라고 설명합니다. 영적으로 각성하고 예수님을 알고 그의 행함을 깨달으면 마음이 ㄸ거워집니다. 매일 성경을 읽고 진리를 추구하면 마음이 뜨거워집니다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 말씀을 받을 수 있는 열린 마음을 달라고 하나님께 기도해야 합니다(고후 6:7).
둘째, 교회안에 성도의 교제가 있어야 합니다(행 2:42; 빌 1:5). 엠마오의 제자들의 마음이 뜨거워진 것은 두 사람의 마음이 하나가 되었기 때문입니대. 마음이 하나가 되어야 하나의 교제가 이루어집니다. 뜨거운 마음은 뜨거운 교제로 나타납니다. 냉냉한 마음을 가진 자는 교제를 원하지 않습니다. 성령의 내주하심의 증거는 다른 성도들과의 교제를 통해 나타납니다. 고민과 문제를 함께 나누고, 함께 기도하고, 서로 위로하고, 하나님의 말씀을 나누면서 마음을 새롭게 하면 마음이 뜨거워지는 것입니다(요 20:17)
셋째, 사람들에게 복음을 전해야 합니다(딤후 4:5). 엠마오의 두 제자는 예수남을 만난 후 부활의 복음을 전하기 위해 예루살렘으로 다시 돌아갔습니다. 그들은 예수님의 부활의 복음을 전하지 않을 수 없었습니다. 뜨거운 마음을 가진 그리스도인은 자신이 받은 은혜를 다른 사람에게 나눕니다. 예수 그리스도의 복음을 나누면 뜨겁게 마음이 유지됩니다. 복음을 전하지 않으면 우리의 마음은 차가워지고 둔감해지고 무감각해 집니다. 만일 영적으로 무감하다고 하면 "나는 복음을 전하고 있는 그리스도인인가?"라고 스스로 자문해 보아야 합니다.

오늘의 기도: 당신이 사랑하는 사람들 중에 누구든지 신체적으로나 영적으로 영양이 부족하다면 그들의 필요한 영양분을 공급받을 수 있도록 기도하십시오.
기도 지침: 우리의 기도 없이도 하나님께서 이러한 것들을 내려 주실 수 있었지만, 하나님은 우리의 기도를 통해서 이 은혜들이 어디에서 오는가를 배우기를 원하신 것이다. – 성 어거스틴.
