January 1 - Happy New Year!

 

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not own understanding; I all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs3:5, 6

 

 

As we all know, everyone greets each other, wishing the coming New Year will be blessed. In Korea, people greet each other by saying, “May you be blessed in the New Year!” In America, people say, “Happy New Year!” We like to bless each other in the New Year regardless of who we are in Christ. 

 

However, in the greetings of Christians, there should be a wish for God’s blessings to fill our lives in the coming New Year. Everyone wants to fulfill their hopes and dreams in the New Year and lead a better life than the previous year. Not wanting to repeat the mistakes and failures of the past year, they welcome the New Year with hopes and expectations that they may be successful in their business and have a peaceful life or see their children be healthy and academically successful.

 

To receive God’s guidance, we need to acknowledge God in all our ways((Proverb 3:6). This means turning every area of life over to him. Look at your values and priorities. What is important to you? In what areas have you not acknowledged him? In many areas of your life, you may already acknowledge God, but the areas where you attempt to restrict or ignore his influence will cause you grief. Make him a vital part of everything you do; then, he will guide you because you will work to accomplish his purpose. 

 

When we read the Word of God, however, it is not only we who want to be blessed, but even more, God wants to bless us and see us live a blessed life in Him(Deuteronomy 10:12-16). The Bible tells us that every life’s trouble begins within our hearts. “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life”(Proverbs 4:23). The Bible tells us that the heart is the root of our life. In other words, the heart is the root of our physical, intellectual, ethical, social, and religious life. God looks at our hearts and knows us. We meet God in our hearts and fellowship with God’s spirit (Matthew 5:3). 

 

We are told to apply God’s way to our hearts. By doing so, we are promised blessings. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”(Revelation 3:20). What is the source of your desire and wishes for the New Year? God has prepared His blessings for you, but what does God expect of you? What is God asking you to pursue this coming year?

 

True faith means holding nothing back. It means putting every hope in God’s fidelity to His Promises.

True happiness is obtained through acts of kindness filled with love for our loved ones, friends, and neighbors. Happy New Year, filled with many blessings. New Year is God’s way of letting you know there is still a chance for you to change for the better. Have a blessed and prosperous New Year!s  “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”- Ezekiel 11:19, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

 

 

Today’s Prayer: Praise God for his creativity. Give glory to the unending variety exhibited in His creation. Thank God for the wonderful way you have been made and your unique personality, gifts, and talents. LORD, I ask for your guidance, wisdom l, strength, and peace to carry me into this New Year. Thank you for being a God who never changes, no matter how many years go by. I commit this upcoming year to your care and trust you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

1월 1일 - 새해 복 많이 받으세요

 

“너는 마음을 다하여 여호와를 신뢰하고 네 명철을 의지하지 말라 너는 범사에 그를 인정하라 그리하면 네 길을 지도하시리라” - 잠 3:5, 6   

 

 

우리는 늘 하던 대로 새해가 밝으면 새해 인사를 나눕니다. 한국 사람들은 “새해 복 많이 받으세요”라고 새해의 복을 기원하며 인사를 나누고 미국인들은 “Happy New Year!”라고 인사합니다. 그리스도인이든 아니든 우리 모두는 새해에 서로 복을 빌어 주기를 원합니다.

 

그러나 그리스도인들의 새해 인사에는 하나님의 축복이 우리 삶에 넘치기를 소망하는 인사가 되어야 합니다. 사람들은 누구나 새해에는 희망과 꿈을 이루고 지난해보다 더 나은 삶을 살아가기를 간절히 원하는 것입니다. 지난해의 실수와 실패를 다시 반복하지 않고 새 희망과 기대속에 우리는 새해를 맞이 하게 됩니다. 가정에서 평안의 삶을 원하고, 외부 활동과 사업에서 성공하고, 자녀들이 모두 건강하게 자라고 학업에서 좋은 성적을 기원하는 것입니다.

 

그런데 우리가 신년에 하나님의 축복과 인도를 받으려면 먼저 우리의 삶의 모든 일에 하나님을 인정해야 합니다(잠언 3:6). 하나님을 인정한다는 것은 삶의 모든 것을 하나님께 맡긴다는 뜻입니다. 당신이 가장 중요한 가치는 무엇이고, 삶의 우선순위가 어디에 있는지, 그리고 삶의 어떤 부분에서 하나님을 인정하지 않고 있는지 생각해 보십시오. 하나님을 인정하고 있다고 하지만, 하나님의 영향을 제한하고 무시하는 경향이 있는지 살펴 보시기 바랍니다. 모든 일에 하나님을 우선하면 당신은 하나님의 인도하심을 받을 수 있습니다.

 

성경은 우리가 하나님의 축복 받기 원하는 것처럼 하나님도 우리에게 축복해 주시기를 원한다고 말씀합니다(신 10:12-16). 그리고 우리의 모든 문제는 마음에서 시작한다고 말씀합니다. “무릇 지킬 만한 것보다 네 마음을 지키라 생명의 근원이 이에서 남이니라”(잠 4;23) 우리 삶의 근원은 마음이고 육체적, 정신적, 지성적, 윤리적, 사회적 그리고 종교적인 모든 삶의 근원은 마음이라고 성경은 가르치고 있습니다. 하나님은 마음에서 우리를 만나 주시고 또한 우리는 마음으로 하나님의 영적 교제를 나누는 것입니다(마 5:3).

 

그러므로 우리는 마음에서부터 하나님의 계명에 순종하는 자세를 가져야 하고 그렇게 할 때에 하나님은 약속하신 대로 축복하십니다. “볼지어다 내가 문 밖에 서서 두드리노니 누구든지 내 음성을 듣고 문을 열면 내가 그에게로 들어가 그와 더불어 먹고 그는 나와 더불어 먹으리라”(계 3:20). 새해 소망과 소원의 원천을 어디에 두고 계십니까? 하나님은 새해에 당신에게 기대하시는 것이 무엇이고 당신이 무엇을 추구하기를 원하실까요?

 

참된 믿음이란, 모든 일에 하나님께서 약속한 말씀이 이루어진다는 믿음을 가지고 하나님에게 소망을 두는 것입니다. 참된 행복은 사랑하는 사람, 친구 및 이웃과 함께하는 사랑과 친절의  삶을 함께 나누는 데 있습니다. 하나님의 축복이 넘치는 새해를 맞이하십시오. 하나님께서 새해를 주시는 것은 하나님의  많은 축복을 받아 더 좋은 사람으로 변할 수 있는 기회가 있음을 깨닫게 하시는 것입니다. 하나님의 축복으로 번영하고 성공하고 복된 새해가 되시기를 바랍니다! “내가 그들에게 한 마음을 주고 그 속에 새영을 주며 그 몸에서 돌 같은 마음을 제거하고 살처럼 부드러운 마음을 주어.” 겔 11:19. “그런즉 누구든지 그리스도안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라 이전 것을 지나갔으니 보라 새 것이 되었도라” – 고후 5:17.

 

 

오늘의 기도 : 하나님의 창조사역에 대해 찬양하십시오. 주님의 창조에 나타난 끝없는 다양성에 대해 하나님께 영광을 돌리십시오. 다양한 창조주 하나님께서 당신을 놀랍게 창조하시고 특별한 개성과 은사와 달란트를 주셨음에 감사드립니다. 주님 새해를 맞이하여 주님께서 나를 인도해 주시고 지혜와 능력과 평강을 더하여 주옵소서. 영원히 변치 않으시는 하나님을 찬양하고 감사드립니다. 새해에도 주님께서 돌보아 주실 것을 믿고 의지합니다. 예수님의 이름을 기도합니다. 아멘.
