November 17 - Salvation Prophesized

 

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12

 

Peter is explaining to the Sanhedrin whose authority he used to heal a lame man (Acts 3:1–10). Specifically, the council asks, "By what power or by what name did you do this?" (Acts 4:7). Peter ciaims that he did it through the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Acts 4:10). One's "name" includes the sense of one's identity, power, authority, and reputation. Jesus' name is the only name that saves.

"Salvation" is from the Greek root word sōtēria. It means "deliverance and preservation" and can imply rescue in a worldly, physical context, such as from enemies, or it can suggest eternal spiritual rescue. The salvation that Christ offers delivers us from sin and hell and preserves us, or keeps us safe, for heaven (John 10:28). "Men" is from the Greek root word Anthrōpos and means "human being;" this is the non-gender-specific reference for all human beings.

In Acts 4:11, Peter calls the Sanhedrin the "builders" responsible for the Jewish people and the proper observance of the Jewish religion. As "builders," the elders, priests, and scribes should have recognized Jesus. Several places in their Scripture—our Old Testament—describe Jesus as the Messiah they have been waiting for. In just the last week of His life, He fulfilled prophecies of the donkey He rode into Jerusalem on (Zechariah 9:9; Mark 11:1–7), the way the Roman guards cast lots for His clothing (Psalm 22:18; Mark 15:24), and the fact that His bones were not broken (Psalm 22:17; John 19:31–37).

We Christians need to know that we are saved by believing in Christ. That is why the apostles always preached on the atonement and resurrection of Jesus, the essence of the gospel (Acts 4:12). Many people nowadays see Christianity as one of many religions, not believing that they are saved only through Jesus Christ. However, the Bible says salvation comes only through believing in Jesus Christ. This truth was prophesized and revealed through many prophets in the Old Testament.

Many prophets already studied the truth before the birth of Jesus. “Concerning this salvation, the prophets who spoke of the grace that was to come to you searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow” (1 Peter 1:10-11). Salvation was revealed through the prophets. They expected salvation would come at their age. So, long before the birth of Jesus, many knew and testified about the coming and the life of Jesus, saying that He would come to die on the cross and be resurrected. 

 

For instance, the prophet Isaiah prophesized about Jesus’ suffering. “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely, he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds, we are healed” (Isaiah 53:3-5). The Psalmist prophesized regarding the glory of Jesus. “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” (Psalm 16:11). Salvation did not come from men but was prepared by God before creation.

11월 17일 - 미리 예언된 구원

 

“다른 이로서는 구원을 얻을 수 없나니 천하 인간에 구원을 얻을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이니라 하였더라”
 - 행 4:12

베드로는 산헤드린 공회앞에서 저는 자를 고치게 한 권위가 무엇인지 설명합니다(행 3:1-10). 특히 공회가 "무슨 권세와 누구의 이름으로 이 일을 행하였느냐?"(행 4:7) 물었을 때, 그는  나사렛 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 행하였다고 대답합니다(행 4:10). 사람의 이름에는 자신의 신분, 권력, 권위 및 명성의 의미가 포함됩니다. 예수님의 이름은 구원을 위한 유일한 이름입니다. 

 

구원은 헬라어 쏘테리아에 유래하고 있는데 구원과 보장을 말하며 세상적이고 물리적인 의미에서는 적군에서 구출하는 것과, 영적으로 영원한 구조를 암시 합니다. 그리스도가 우리에게 베푸시는 구원은 죄와 지옥고 구원할 뿐만 아니라 우리를 보호하고 안전하게 지켜 천국으로 인도합니다(요 10:28). “천하 인간에”의 “인간” 은 헬라어에 안드로포스에서 유래한 모든 인간에 대한 성별에 구애받지 않는 사람을 칭하는 말 입니다.  

 

베드로는 산헤드린 공회는 유대 민족과 종교를 바르게 세워나가고 관리할 책임이 있다고 말합니다(행 4:11). 유대 종교를 세우는 제사장들과 서기관들은 예수님을 인정 했어야합니다. 예수님은 구약에서 그들의 메시아의 정체성을 구체적으로 예언되어 있기 때문입니다. 예수님은 마지막에 나귀를 타고 예루살렘에 입성하시는 것(슥 9:9; 막 11:1-7), 로마 군사들이 예수님의 옷을 놓고 제비를 뽑는다는 것(시 22:18; 막 15:24), 그리고 그의 뼈가 꺾이지 않았다는 것(시 22:17; 요한복음 19:31-37)이 구약에서 구체적으로 예언되어 있습니다. 

 

그리스도를 구주로 믿고 구원받는 진리보다 더 중요한 것은 없습니다. 사도들은 복음의 핵심인 예수님의 대속의 죽으심과 부활의 복음을 전파하였습니다(행 4:12). 오늘날 기독교를 종교중  하나로 보는 사람들은 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 인간이 구원을 받는다는 복음의 진리를 인정하지 않습니다. 그러나 성경은 오직 그리스도를 믿음으로만 구원을 받을 수 있다고 분명히 가르치고 있습니다. 이 진리는 구약의 선지자들이 예언하였고 또 구약의 말씀에 계시되었습니다. 

 

예수님 탄생 오래 전 선지자들은 이 구원의 진리에 대해서 연구하였다고 베드로가 말합니다. “이 구원에 대하여는 너희에게 임할 은혜를 예언하던 선지자들이 연구하고 부지런히 살펴서 자기 속에 계신 그리스도의 영이 그 받으실 고난과 후에 얻을 영광을 미리 증거하여 어느 시, 어떠한 때를 지시하시는지 상고 하니라”(벧전 1:10-11). 구원의 복음은 구약의 선지자들에게 계시되었고, 그들은 이 구원이 그들의 시대에 성취되기를 기대하였습니다. 그러므로 구약의 선지자들은 예수님께서 탄생하시기 오래 전에 예수님이 세상에 오셔서 고난을 받으시고 십자가에 달려 죽으셨다가 부활하실 것을 이미 알고 예언한 것 입니다.

 

예를 들어, 이사야는 주님의 고난을 예언합니다. “그는 멸시를 받아서 사람에게 싫어 버린 바 되었으며 간고를 많이 겪었으며 질고를 아는 자라 마치 사람들에게 얼굴을 가리우고 보지 않음을 받는 자 같아서 멸시를 당하였고 우리도 그를 귀히 여기지 아니하였도다 그는 실로 우리의 질고를 지고 우리의 슬픔을 당하였거늘 우리는 생각하기를 그는 징벌을 받아서 하나님에게 맞으며 고난을 당한다 하였노라 그가 찔림은 우리의 허물을 인함이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄를 인함이라 그가 징계를 받으므로 우리가 평화를 누리고 그가 채찍에 맞음으로 우리가 나음을 입었도다”(사 53:3-5). 시편 기자는 예수님이 받을 영광을 예언합니다. “주께서 생명의 길로 내게 보이시리니 주의 앞에는 기쁨이 충만하고 주의 우편에는 영원한 즐거움이 있나이다”(시 16:11). 구원은 사람에게서 나오는 것이 아니라 하나님 자신이 영원 전부터 예비하신 것 입니다. 

 

오늘의 기도: 하나님 나라에 대한 당신의 비전을 얼마나 큽니까? 이사야의 비전 “나라들은 네 빛으로 왕들은 비치는 네 광명으로 나타나리니” (사 60:3)를 나누면서,  “나라들”과 “왕들”이 오늘 하나님께 돌아오도록 기도하십시오.
