January 12 - Worship God

 

“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD.’’’ - Psalm 122:1

 

 

True worship involves the whole being of the worshiper. The worshiper places the worshiped being or thing ahead of every other concern, including concern for self. God calls us to worship him because he is the worthiest recipient of our adoration. Worship overflows from our loving relationship with our heavenly Father. “God is Spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth”(John 4:24).

 

The very existence of the church is to worship God. The people of God can express their love toward God through praise and worship from gratitude. God made us His people to worship him. The church's primary purpose is to worship God. “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name worships the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.”(Psalm 29:2).

 

We are to lift God and worship Him. The act of worship must not be out of responsibility but out of a sincere heart if we want God to accept our worship. Therefore, we can say that the church is a gathering of people who love and worship God. God delights in the loving worship of his people(Psalm 122:1). Through worship, we can see the heart of love for God. 

 

Many churches believe that the purpose of the church is to have service rather than worship. These churches promote serving people over worshiping God. There is no benefit for the church or the members without real love and sincere worship of God. Hence, we are the first to learn to worship God before serving. The worship must be established on the love of Christ’s salvation. Christ’s love saves us. The worship must be for the glory of God and Christ, the head of the Church. 

 

Charles Spurgeon once said, “Some go to church to take a walk; some go there to laugh and talk. Some go there to meet a friend; some spend their time there. Some go there to meet a lover; some go there a fault to cover. Some go there for speculation; some go there for observation. Some go there to doze and nod; the wise go there to worship God.”

 

Many people do not realize the meaning of worship even if they attend church every Sunday. Instead of knowing why we must worship and the purpose of the worship, church-goers just come to church out of habit to fulfill religious duties. When we understand the meaning of worship biblically and theologically, we can worship God the way God wants us to worship. 

 

Apostle Paul and John encourage us and say, “I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”(Romans 12:1). “You are worthy, our LORD and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they were created and had their being.”(Revelation 4:11).

Today’s Prayer: Praise God for his limitless power. Give thanks that God is willing to strengthen you with power through the Spirit within you. Confess when you have been weak because you did not possess his strength. Commit yourself to serve in the strength of the LORD. Ask God to strengthen you with the power of his glorious riches through his Spirit in your inner being (Ephesians 3:16).

1월 12일 - 하나님을 예배하라

 

“사람이 내게 말하기를 여호와의 집에 올라가자 할 때에 내가 기뻐하였도다” - 시122:1

 

 

진정한 예배를 드리려면 예배드리는 자의 자신의 문제와 그 외 다른 어떤 것보다 더 예배를 받으시는 하나님께 집중하고 하나님 중심으로 드려야 합니다. 우리를 예배자로 부르신 하나님은 경배를 받으시기에 합당하신 분입니다. 예배는 하늘 아버지와 사랑의 관계에서 기쁘게 드리는 것입니다. “하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 영과 진리로 예배할지니라”(요 4:24).

 

교회의 존재 목적 중 하나는 하나님을 예배하는 것입니다. 하나님의 백성들은 경배와 감사의 찬양으로 하나님을 향한 사랑을 표현합니다. 하나님께서 우리를 그의 백성으로 삼으신 것은 예배를 원하셨기 때문입니다. 그러므로 교회의 우선적인 목적은 하나님을 예배하는 것입니다. “여호와께 그의 이름에 합당한 영광을돌리며 거룩한 옷을 입고 여호와께 경배할지어다”(시 29:2).

 

우리는 하나님을 높여 예배드려야 합니다. 하나님이 받으시는 합당한 예배는 의식적인 행위의 예배가 아닌 진심을 다해 드리는 예배입니다. 교회는 하나님을 사랑하고 예배드리기를 원하는 자들의 모임 공동체입니다. 하나님은 그의 자녀들이 하나님을 사랑하고 표현하는 예배를 받으십니다(시122:1). 하나님을 향한 우리의 사랑은 예배를 통해 나타나게 되어 있습니다.

 

많은 교회가 교회의 존재 목적을 하나님을 예배하는 것보다 사회적인 봉사라고 믿고 있습니다. 그래서 예배 보다 사회봉사를 더 강조하는 교회도 있습니다. 하나님께 진심으로 드리는 사랑의 예배가 우선 되지 않으면 그리스도인의 봉사는 하나님과 사람 앞에서 아무 유익도 없고 믿음에 도움이 되지 못합니다. 봉사하기 전에 먼저 하나님께 예배하는 것을 배워야 합니다. 예배는 예수 그리스도의 구원에 기초하여 교회의 머리이신 예수님과 하나님의 영광을 위해 드려야 합니다.

 

찰스 스펄젼 목사는 교회 가는 목적에 대해 이야기 한 적이 있습니다. "어떤 이들은 산책하기 위해, 웃고 이야기하기 위해, 친구를 만나기 위해, 시간을 보내기 위해, 연인을 만나기 위해, 자신의 잘못을 위장하기 위해, 추축하고 관찰하기 위해, 그리고 졸고 고개를 끄덕이기 위해 교회에 간다. 그러나 지혜로운 자는 하나님을 예배하기 위해 교회에 가는 것이다."

 

오늘날 많은 사람들이 매 주일 교회에 나가지만, 예배의 진정한 의미를 잘 모르고 있습니다. 왜 예배드려야 하는지, 예배의 목적에 대한 지식이 없이 종교적인 의식과 의무와 습관적으로  예배드리는 사람들이 많이 있습니다. 우리가 예배의 의미를 성경적으로 그리고 신학적으로 이해한다면 우리는 하나님이 원하시는 예배를 드릴 수 있습니다.

 

사도 바울과 요한은 우리를 격려하며 말씀합니다. “그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비 하심으로 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제사로 드리라 이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라(롬 12:1). “우리 주 하나님이여 영광과 존귀와 권능을 받으시는 것이 합당하오니 주께서 만물을 지으신 자라 만물이 주의 뜻대로 있었고. 또 지으심을 받았나이다”(계 4:11).

오늘의 기도 : 무한하신 하나님의 능력을 찬양하십시오. 당신 안에 계신 성령으로 능력과 힘을 주시기 기뻐하시는 하나님께 감사하십시오. 하나님이 주시는 힘을 받지 못하여 연약한 때가 있었음을 고백하고, 주님의 힘으로 섬기기로 자신을 하나님께 드리고, 그의 영광의 풍성을 따라 그의 성령으로 당신의 속 사람을 능력으로 강건하게 해 달라고 간구하십시오.
